Can you believe it has been over a year since we transformed Banbury Heights into an inland seaside resort for our residents? As reported last year in the Banbury Guardian, we brought the seaside to our home, breaking up the summer heatwave with a beach, paddling pool and ice cream for everyone.

The team embraced the day and wore Hawaiian-styled outfits and flower garlands, and residents thoroughly enjoyed feeling sand between their toes and having a paddle in the water. Madeline Taylor even said at the time how much fun everyone had, saying “They have music, they’ve been paddling, they have sand and are pretending it’s a bit of a beach”, which really was lovely to see.

Our activity coordinator here at Banbury Heights Nursing Home said, “We talked to all the residents and they have been asking for a beach feel. We thought about an ice cream van, so we have one visiting us!”

Ice cream is always a good idea, so maybe we can do something else like this if we have another heatwave this summer! After all, it went down a treat last year and it’s great to see smiles on everyone’s faces.
