Read about our news and stories from our every day activities

At Banbury Heights, we take as many opportunities as we can to go above and beyond for our residents – this means that if someone really wants to do something, we do our best to make it happen.

A couple of months ago, we put on a special trip for one resident that actually made it into the local news! A story about us was featured in the Banbury Guardian. You can read their article here, but here’s the story from our side.

Mary Henderson, who lives here at Banbury Heights, used to be a racehorse trainer and rider, and she missed going to the races and being around horses. Edgcote racecourse isn’t too far from here, so we decided to take Mary and a few other residents on a trip to roll back the years and witness the Point-to-Point race meet!

Mary was in her element and everyone else enjoyed the day too – Mary even managed to catch up with some old friends in the horse fraternity at the meeting, which was absolutely wonderful. She met with a former jockey of her horses, Jo Parris, who is now a judge! Mary also saw Alan Walker, a retired vet who used to take care of her horses.

Mary placed a bet on two horses, with one finishing third and the other coming home first! To celebrate, Mary treated herself to a toddy of whisky with her winnings.

What a day! Hopefully we’ll get to enjoy many more like this in the future, putting smiles on as many residents’ faces as possible here in our Banbury nursing home.
